Cattle trader killed in BSF firing
A
cattle trader was gunned down by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at Wahedpur
border under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district at early hours on Monday.
The
victim has been identified as Tariqul Islam, 35, son of Yusuf Ali of Jamaipara
village under Shibganj upazila of the district.
Commanding
Officer (CO) of 9 battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Lieutenant
Colonnel Abu Jafar Sheikh Md. Bazlul Hoque said, a group of 5/6 cattle traders
entered into Indian territory near border pillar no. 16/4 through Charpanka
frontier under Wahedpur Border Out Post (BOP) at around 1 am. At this, BSF
members of Chandnichak camp under 20 battalion fired rubber bullets injuring
Tariqul Islam seriously. His companions rescued him and took him to his house
where he succumbed to injuries at around 2-30 am.
Immediately
after the incident the commanding officer talked with the commandant of 20 BSF
battalion of Maldah district Raj Kumar Batasa over mobile phone and protested
the killing and also asked for flag meeting.
Accordingly
the flag meeting was held from 10-30 am till 11-30 am at the same border, he
added.
He
further added that the 10 members Bangladesh team was led by
additional director of 9 BGB battalion Major Minnat Ali and the 11members
Indian team was led by inspector of Chandnichak camp of BSF Niraj Singh. He
again said that BSF expressed sorrow for the incident and assured of proper
investigation and punishment to the responsible persons.
Being
informed police from Shibganj thana went to the
spot, recovered the dead body and sent it to the Chapainawabganj Sadar
Hospital morgue for
autopsy. OC of Shibganj thana
